I started this remix of Mainframe's "Taps" in 2008 and never quite finished it. after not listening to it or playing it for a couple of years i thought it'd be cool to share it with everyone as a free download.

Unfortunately i don't have the Ableton Live file any more (see a trend in my production workflow appearing?) so it is what it is! hope you like and share.

The return of Down Sundays

If you're new to dubstep and bass music in Miami then you may not be aware of the party that we call Down. If you are familiar, read anyways 'cause this shit took a while to write!

In 2010 Gooddroid got together with a couple of Miami selectors that supported the deeper shades of dubstep, with the intent of providing a place to dance and hang out that you're not going to feel so bro'd out all night. After moving to a couple of venues, Bar Black became the home and many, many Sunday nights were spent drinking cheap beer, skanking out, playing Scrabble and video games!

With guests such as Scuba, Djunya, FaltyDL, Joe Nice, Scuba, Headhunter, Distance, Brenmar, Nick Argon and the best local talent, the night was solidified as the spot to hear deep dubstep, garage and future bass. Unfortunately Bar Black had to close it's doors to the public, just as I joined as a regular resident, and we've been pretty sad ever since.

After a period of time and effort, we've located our new home, in the side room at the newly renovated Eve, just around the corner from our previous home. While we may have changed homes, our passion for deep bass music hasn't, and we are very proud and excited to see our regulars, and new faces, every other Sunday starting September 11th.

Here are mixes from our residents, to give you a taste of what we have done, and what is to come.

June Promo mix by GrayGhost

Once again, Down returns on Sunday, September 11th at the side room at Eve nightclub (1306 N Miami Ave.), with no cover for everyone that's 18+ with residents somejerk, Gooddroid, Ashworth and Gray Ghost spinning the dopest and deepest in dubstep, garage, future bass and everything in between.

Peace and respect to all crews, Miami and internationally, that support the bass music movement and extra extra love to our friends at Get Low/Shake, BassHead Music, Smile For Camera, Bass-Love, Smut + Bass, and the Miami Dubstep family.

somejerk’s Down promo mix

somejerk's Down promo mix by DownMiami

To promote the return of Down, the bi-weekly Sunday event that has now moved to Eve in Downtown Miami, somejerk has created a new mix, touching on a number of styles that he plays as it's new resident. This mix is an upbeat mish mash of electro, techno, garage and even a little dubstep in just under 39 minutes.

Every other Sunday residents Gooddroid, Ashworth, Gray Ghost and somejerk present deep dubstep, garage, post-step and other forms of future bass via Eve's newly renovated side room.

Visit DownMiami.com for more information on the event, which is 18+ and has no cover!

HATCHA @ GET LOW! JULY 15TH

"No one DJ or indeed producer can claim sole credit for dubstep. But when the history of the genre gets told, no DJ has ever had, or perhaps ever will again have so much influence over the course of the genre as Hatcha. It’s no overstatement to say the entire genre bares his stamp...."

"Hatcha’s roots seep deep back into late ‘90s UK garage, Croydon and pirate radio. Originally the buyer at the now defunct Big Apple record shop, Hatcha was one of the very first DJs to pick up on the new dark strains of 2step that were being made by local producers like El-B, Artwork and Horsepower at the turn of the millennium. As the producers came into the shop to sell white labels of these niche new sounds, a community arose. The shop began its own label, Big Apple Records and its first release was the dubstep classic “Red” by the shop’s resident producer Artwork.

The next releases came from his two protégés, Benga and Skream. As the garage sounds from south London began to take on their own unique, dark swung direction, it became clear that the nascent scene needed a home. In 2001 Forward>>, dubstep’s founding club, started with Hatcha a resident. It was here he began to up the ante. While other DJs came with a collection of white labels (tracks immanently due for a public release), he arrived with a box of upfront dubplates: unique one-off exclusive tracks. No DJ could test.

Throughout the decade Hatcha’s sets, first on south London pirates then Rinse FM and now Kiss 100, went from strength to strength. His headline slots at Forward>> forged the genre into the form we now know it in. This was in no small part because he had exclusive access to Benga and Skream’s music, before adding three new producers: Mala Digital Mystikz, Coki and Loefah to his arsenal. The destiny of an entire scene lay in his hands, every time he played.

In 2003 he even played a part in naming the genre. Amidst the scene’s key players: the Big Apple camp and Ammunition who ran Forward>> and Tempa, the term “dubstep” (from dubby 2step garage), began being circulated. It appeared in a press release and then on a US magazine cover. Hatcha was then asked to mix the scene’s first compilation that cemented the use of the name: Dubstep Allstars vol 1. He must have done something right: they asked him back to co-mix volume 4.

Since those times Hatcha has gone on to hold down his flagship Kiss 100 show alongside long time MC, Crazy D, DJ across the planet, co-produce with a variety of the scene’s heavyweights and mix compilations such as Ten Tons Heavy for Planet Mu. Catch DJ Hatcha under a weighty system near you sometime soon."

[dubstep/bass] somejerk's July Beatdown mix

This is not your average "dubstep" mix - genres twist and shift like a mangled ravers jaw as genres are skipped across like stones on a pond. Never one to stick to the same thing for too long, South Florida based somejerk presents this latest installment in his Beatdown mix series. Shouts to the Miami Dubstep crew, Digital Felon family and supporters worldwide. Haters can suck it. RIP Mike Honcho.
